China's Ambassador to South Africa, Liu Guijin, announced that China would voluntarily limit its clothing and textile exports to South Africa.
China's exports to South Africa had increased 40 percent in the past nine months.
Dr. Aaron Searll, CEO, Seardel Investment Holdings, commented that the reduction in the imports will help boost flagging domestic industry.
Searll also added that the industry had yet to be clearly informed about the nature and duration of restrictions.
Seardel Investment Holdings is the country's biggest clothing and textile manufacturer and is involved in diverse areas of activities including distribution of toys and consumer electronics.
