The Johnstons of Elgin womenswear collection for SS13 offers superbly cut, modern design classics. The Scottish brand is renowned for its expertise in design, cashmere and fine woollens. This is the first time the brand has unveiled such a sophisticated and harmonised collection incorporating classic cashmere and lighter blends of cashmere silk.

The collection celebrates the change in outlook that comes with spring sunshine and long summer days as winter evaporates and thoughts turn to relaxed weekends and enjoying countryside air. This is Scottish heritage reinvented, classics redesigned, simplicity beautifully executed with a modern aesthetic. This season sees a shift in proportions: hemlines are dropping whilst waistlines are rising.

There is a lean elegance with soft structure and movement following the line of the body beneath. This is juxtaposed against feminine and sculptural forms which add dimension. Openwork structures and heavier, textured pure cashmere knits in neutral shades provide perfect transition pieces, ideal for the early months of Spring. Classic and ever popular design references such as a Breton stripe and a nautical theme complete the ‘Holiday’ look. .

A simple modern colour palette offers clear pastels and translucent pinks and peaches. Intense saturated colours give a blast of strength for the customer seeking a bolder statement. The colour block trend is referenced again with contrasting trims to waist length cardigans, and sweaters and streamlined dresses. Bolder pieces include stronger garments with a graphic edge with black and white.

A range of lightweight scarves and stoles are perfect for those cooler summer evenings. The unfailingly popular cashmere/silk gauzy stole with pretty pastel space dyed yarn decoration is perfect for a summer wrap.
