Olymp donation helps handicap home turn self sustainable

Now, in the summer of 2013, the successful result has been presented to the public in the form of a new greenhouse that will help make the home self-sufficient through the cultivation of fruit and vegetables.

In 1997, the municipality of Ingersheim, the Bietigheim newspaper, the Schiller International University and the German Red Cross in Ingersheim set up the "Ingersheim Initiative".

Its stated objective is to improve and ease the lives of mentally and physically handicapped children and young people in Vidrare, Bulgaria. The town of Vidrare is situated approx. 100 kilometres from the capital of Sofia and runs a children's home, where 100 children and young people between the ages of three and 18 years live.

What is particularly tragic here is that these children have often been rejected by their families and therefore exist on the margins of society. Sadly, only very few of them still have contact with their relatives and most have been abandoned. Rectifying this deplorable issue is the stated aim of Ingerheim's dedicated Mayor, Volker Godel, and his numerous voluntary helpers from many organisations and associations in the surrounding area.

In 2010, the Board of Trustees members of the OLYMP-Bezner-Stiftung, Eberhard Bezner and Birgit Bezner-Fischer, were delighted to add their support to Volker Godel's wish to provide assistance both in practical and financial terms to the partnership project for Bulgarian children and young people in Vidrare.

"It is so positive to see how our donations for the new greenhouse are benefiting all residents of the children's home and how this represents a useful addition to the provision of food there."

Although no further development in Bulgaria is currently being planned, in a specific case of need, the OLYMP-Bezner-Stiftung will as a matter of principle once again provide financial support to the project for handicapped children and young people.

Above all, this case is an example of how funds have been used in a target-oriented and monitored manner to achieve a sustainable result. Birgit Bezner-Fischer says: "The actions of Mayor Volker Godel are a shining example of direct humanitarian aid across European borders. This is exactly what our foundation is all about."

Over the last five years, the OLYMP-Bezner-Stiftung established in 2008 with a foundation capital of one million euros, has demonstrated its positive commitment to charitable causes through its financial support of projects both at home and abroad.

The quality, substance, content and acceptance of the work carried out by the foundation are reflected by the fact that aid projects or humanitarian emergencies from all areas and from all groups in society are constantly being brought to the attention of the Board of Trustees of the foundation based in Bietigheim-Bissingen.

For this reason, the support funds are always allocated at the beginning of the year for the new financial year, to ensure efficiency, consistency and planning reliability for the supported projects.
