KarstadtQuelle to operate at FIFA World Cup

German department store group KarstadtQuelle has been granted the exclusive right to establish and operate the Official Retail Corners and the Official Retail Stores in Germany, which will sell, approved Official Licensed Merchandise.
The plan is to set up approximately 300 Official Retail Stores/Corners throughout the host country by 2006. With precedence given to the 12 Host Cities, the first Official 2006 FIFA World Cup hop was opened in Berlin on September 16, 2004, with Munich, Hamburg and Leipzig following hot on the heels.
KarstadtQuelle has also been granted the exclusive right to maintain and operate the Merchandise Concessions and to sell approved Official Licensed Products at the venues staging the final competition of the 2006 FIFA World Cup on match days. KarstadtQuelle also obtained a non-exclusive, non-branded 2006 FIFA World Cup license for the apparel category.
A key component of the Commercial Affiliates' (Official Partners and Official Suppliers) rights package is the right to source and produce 'premiums'. This right is also granted to the LOC and Host Cities.
Premiums are defined as merchandise that fall outside the Commercial Affiliates' product categories, bearing the Commercial Affiliate's corporate brand name/logo and the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany event marks and that are given away free of charge or at a subsidized price in conjunction with the sale and promotion of Commercial Affiliates' assigned products and services for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
