Christopher & Banks announces Oct sales results

Minneapolis-based apparel store Christopher & Banks Corporation reported total sales for the five-week period ended October 29, 2005 increased 9 percent to $50.7 million from $46.5 million last year, while October same-store sales declined 2 percent.
For the eight months ended October 29, 2005 total sales rose 15 percent to $319.5 million from $277.1 million in the prior year period, while same-store sales rose 2 percent. As of October 29, 2005, the Company operated 699 stores compared to 613 stores as of October 30, 2004.
Bill Prange, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, commented, "Same- store sales were down 2 percent for the month following a 7 percent increase last October. However, they are encouraged that October merchandise margins improved over last year levels. With their continued strong inventory management, they anticipate merchandise margins will trend above last year levels again in November."

The Company currently operates 679 women's specialty stores in 45 states under the names: Christopher & Banks, C.J. Banks and Acorn. The company currently has 489 Christopher & Banks stores, 169 C.J. Banks stores and 21 Acorn stores.
