Anvil Knitwear, a leading manufacturer of socially and environmentally responsible apparel and accessories, is launching an exclusive line of organic apparel, including tees and hoodies, to benefit the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI), including its global environmental and humanitarian youth program, Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots.

Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, founder of the Institute and UN Messenger of Peace, is world-renowned for her groundbreaking research on chimpanzee behavior – research that transformed scientific perceptions of the relationship between humans and animals. Founded in 1977, JGI is a global leader in the effort to protect chimpanzees and their habitats. The Institute also is widely recognized for establishing innovative community-centered conservation and development programs in Africa, as well as Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots. JGI and its iconic founder have long been committed to empowering people to make a difference for all living things. Consistent with this mission, JGI recognizes the efforts of companies – such as Anvil Knitwear – that take positive steps toward making the world a better place.

"2010 marks the 50th anniversary of Jane Goodall's initial research in Tanzania's Gombe National Park," said Anthony Corsano, CEO of Anvil. "With The United Nations' International Day for Biodiversity on May 22, there is no better time than now to highlight the important role biodiversity plays in sustaining a healthy global environment. The special-edition Jane Goodall Institute line is an important addition to Anvil's overall commitment to environmental responsibility and engagement, and we're honored to help build awareness for the Institute."

Anvil Knitwear is a leading manufacturer of innovative, high-quality, eco-friendly apparel and accessories with a proven record in engaging in responsible practices. In addition to the line with JGI, Anvil has recently partnered with environmental organizations such as Earth Day, TED Mission Blue and REDD+ Coalition for Rainforest Nations. Other milestones include Anvil's recent announcement that it was the first company to receive the Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production's WRAPe certification for its Honduras-based textile mill, and the launch of the interactive Web site in 2009, which teaches consumers about the environmental, historical and social aspects of manufacturing, buying and owning a t-shirt.

"We are thrilled that Anvil Knitwear has chosen to support the Jane Goodall Institute," said Maureen Smith, the organization's president. "Our founder has said for many years that the small changes in behavior we all make in our family life, communities and workplaces can amount to a significant difference in sustaining species and habitats around the planet. The Anvil Knitwear product line is a welcome vehicle to celebrate Dr. Goodall's philosophies and accomplishments."
