La Jolla California native Jake Halstead, one of the premiere junior surfers coming out of California is now representing the Billabong brand. Earlier this year the 16-year-old Halstead finished 2nd in the Under-16 division of the ISA World Junior Championships held in Auckland, New Zealand. The result greatly contributed to Team USA's bronze medal finish.
“Jake is a great fit for the Billabong - not only is he a very well-rounded surfer, able to combine conventional rail surfing with progressive maneuvers, but he is the complete package,” says Billabong's Surf Marketing Manager Blake Pettit. “In addition to his talent, Jake is a very personable individual with a great attitude, which exemplifies what our junior program is all about; being a great ambassador for the brand.”
“We have been aiming to fill a void in the San Diego region with a high profile surfer of Jake's caliber since the Benji Weatherly days, so the acquisition really couldn't have come at a better time,” adds Pettit.
Young Halstead is very eager to progress in his junior surfing career with Billabong's support.
“I am very proud and excited to represent the Billabong brand,” says Halstead. “Everyone has made me feel right at home here and their support system is great. They have the best surfers in the world and I am amped to be a part of the team."
With only 2 days of the new sponsorship under his belt, Jake has already blazed his way through the National Scholastic Surfing Association's Westerns Championships in Huntington Beach, solidifying two final births in the Open Juniors and Open Men's divisions. Next up for Jake are the NSSA National Championships and U.S. Championships in June. Count on a solid performance from this young man and expect to see big things from him in the future!
