Innerwear brand Rupa plans foray into South Asia

Rupa & Co, the Kolkata headquartered manufacturer of garments and innerwear, after having captured a large slice of the Indian innerwear market, is now is planning a foray in to countries of South Asia and Africa.

Rupa which had a turnover of Rs 5.3 billion in the previous fiscal year has the distinction of being featured in the 'Limca Book of Records' as the biggest hosiery manufacturing company for the past six consecutive years.

Speaking to Fibre2fashion, the Chairman of Rupa & Co, Mr PR Agarwala said that they plan to license the brand name for production and marketing to local partners in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

He also added by saying that plans are also afoot to foray in to countries in the African continent like South Africa and Nigeria.

The company had also recently undertaken expansion plans at its Tirupur and West Bengal plants which will help it to take its production capacity from 600,000 to 700,000 pieces per month.

Rupa & Co also has the distinction of being the first Indian innerwear manufacturer to become a licensee of Supima, the premier organization of American Pima Cotton growers. Supima stands for superior pima cotton, exclusive extra-long staple (ELS) cotton.
