The first ever and one of its kinds a cricket league for the apparel and textile industry- 'Apparel T20 Cup' final will be played between the two textile giants Pearl Global and Li & Fung. The tournament is organised by Apparel Bricks Connect (ABC), an association and forum of the apparel & textile industry. The final day match will be graced by Shri Ajay Maken, The Union Minister (I/C), Youth Affairs & Sports as the chief guest for the evening, on April 24, 2011, at Turf cricket stadium, Hamdard Majeeta Complex, New Delhi.

The tournament started on April 9, 2011 with 16 teams competing to book a place in the finals. Participation came from Pearl Global, JC PENNY, Li & Fung, Modelama Exports, Newtimes, Triburg, Asmara India, Shahi Exports, Orient Craft, Fusion, V&S, Impulse, NSK, Next Sourcing, Indian Inc & NAEC(Noida Apparel Export Cluster). The drive behind organizing this was to mobilize the apparel & textile industry for empowerment of workers and their children. This tournament generated lot of excitement in the industry with everybody talking about winning the tournament.

To comment on the initiative Mr. Deepak Seth, Chairman, House of Pearl Fashions said, “I am glad that such an interesting endeavour has been taken by Apparel Bricks Connect to bring together the industry and serve a social cause for workers and their children. My team is in the finals and I am enthusiastic and looking forward to the final match”.

The keenness to be a part of this tournament is such that all efforts have been taken to give it a look of serious gaming. The uniforms of various teams have been designed, colour coded and custom made according to the sizes and name of individual players and the fabric used is same as the one used for international players (sweat proof). The companies gave full support to their teams from proving coaching to ground arrangements.

The industry which is less talked about claims to provide employment to over 90 million people. It is poised to triple and touch USD 220 bn by 2020 and has come out with more ways to the society. One of the motives is to bring forth the buried down efforts of this industry.
