Malibu Dream Girl buys Dotti, cover-up brand

Malibu Dream Girl announced the acquisition of privately-held Dotti, the premier cover-up brand in the swimwear industry. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
"I am pleased to announce the acquisition of Dotti as our latest affirmation to expand and improve our product range," said Henry Fan, President of Malibu Dream Girl. "Independently, each company is a respected industry leader. Together, we are an ideal pairing - with Dotti's commitment to fashion-forward, functional cover designs and our unparalleled swimwear quality. We welcome Dotti and its professionals to the Malibu team," Fan added.
"I am very excited to be part of the Malibu family. I believe the synergies of our companies together will greatly enhance our speed to market with new product and a positive experience for the consumer at the retail level," said Ted Torchia, V.P. of Sales for Dotti.
Dotti was founded in 1968 by Dotti Schwartz. She originally made blouses under the Dotti label. Many of her buyers asked if she could make her blouses into tunics as they needed "cover-ups" for their swim departments, and Dotti beach cover-ups were launched. Dotti was privately owned through 1996. The company has changed ownership several times, from the hands of Kellwood Co. in 1997 to A.H. Schreiber Co. in 2005. Dotti cover-ups are currently sold to department and better specialty stores throughout the USA and Mexico.
