Huge investment expanding logistics centre of OLYMP

OLYMP Bezner GmbH & Co. KG is virtually “bursting at its seams”. Continuously growing sales in the shirt, tie, polo shirt as well as the new knitwear segment requires major construction measures. Also, the continuously rising number of employees requires more space. Due to the positive development of this business, the number of highly qualified employees in Germany has risen to 450 now.

As a consequence, the office capacities and logistics space that had been extended in 2007 last have become insufficient. A modern and fully automated warehouse for goods in boxes is planned too. The estimated investment volume for additions to the office building and the logistics centre amounts to approximately 28 million euros.

Mark Bezner, Owner and CEO of OLYMP Bezner GmbH & Co. KG, explains the plans for the future: As a traditional garment company with roots in Baden-Württemberg, we clearly make a statement in favour of Germany. This exciting growth of the OLYMP brand encourages us to further expand our headquarters in Bietigheim-Bissingen.

“The increasing production volumes, the boosting sales volumes and the growing demand of international specialist traders for short-term supply and availability of OLYMP products such as shirts, polo shirts, ties and, from autumn 2011, knitwear too, make it necessary to increase the capacities of the existing storage and logistics space by adding another logistics building with fully automated materials handling equipment.”

“The building with a length of 135 metres will feature a volume of about 122,000 cubic metres and in the final stage provide storage room for an additional 245,000 boxes. For this, the company has planned a major, unprecedented investment in the amount of about 25 million euros. Construction work for expanding the storage space will take place from summer 2011 until the end of 2012. The extension of the office building by an additional floor with 880 square metres that had become necessary as well started in April 2011 and will be completed by the end of 2011. After completion of all construction work, the OLYMP headquarters will cover a total floor space of about 28,500 square metres.”

Innovative implementation of digital ordering and handling processes between international specialist traders and OLYMP gains more and more importance. It is a standard today, and a sign of perfect service, that each sold product from the standard range can be reordered instantly.

From autumn 2011, this will be true for the new OLYMP knitwear range too. Such automated supply also increases the stock turnover substantially. Assisted by modern Electronic Data Interchange systems (EDI), order processes are recorded electronically at the cash points in the stores and each sold article will be reported to the OLYMP logistics centre directly.

This eliminates expensive inventory taking, ordering and pricing processes for the dealers. Based on professional andefficient textile logistics combined with a comprehensive Never Out of Stock programme (NOS), which continuously maintains a stock of about one million shirts from the standard and collection ranges ready for shipment at the Bietigheim central warehouse, instant shipment within 24 hours is reality.
