Brits have been heading for their sewing baskets and getting crafty, having been inspired by programmes such as the BBC's, The Great British Sewing Bee.

Haberdashery sales have soared since the show aired its second series in February with haberdashery accessories increasing by 24% in the first week of the show going live and fabric sales up by 35%, according to Cath Kidston.

The brand, known for being the Home of Modern Vintage, has seen customers jumping on the 'make do and mend' craft craze and swarming to stores to purchase anything craft related, from its range of cheerful printed fabrics to buttons, ribbon to novelty sewing baskets – with its original Caravan Sewing Box proving the most popular.

Since the start of the show's second series, Cath Kidston has sold:
-Enough metres of printed ribbon to wrap the Blackpool Tower nine times
-Enough fabric to stretch from the brand's Flagship store at 180 Piccadilly to its West London store in Portobello
-Enough buttons to button-up over 900 of Sewing Bee judge, Patrick Grant's suits

Cath Kidston Marketing Director, Sue Chidler comments, "We have seen a positive correlation between sales of our haberdashery and craft accessories since the start of The Great British Sewing Bee. As the Home of Modern Vintage, we are really encouraged to see that traditional skills and crafts are seeing a popular revival in modern day life".
