The Odisha state government will set up the Handloom and Handicrafts Development and Promotion Council to assess the impact of various schemes and programmes being implemented for weavers and artisans and suggest measures for their development through optimal utilisation of resources. It will benefit over 4.5 lakh weavers and artisan families.
The state cabinet recently approved a proposal in this regard in a meeting chaired by chief minister Naveen Patnaik.The Odisha state government will set up the Handloom and Handicrafts Development and Promotion Council to assess the impact of various schemes and programmes being implemented for weavers and artisans and suggest measures for their development through optimal utilisation of resources. It will benefit over 4.5 lakh weavers and artisan families. #
The Bhubaneswar-headquartered policy advisory council will also engage in promotional activities to facilitate sale of handloom and handicraft with a special focus on exports and guide the government on maintaining a database of weavers and artisans in the state, state chief secretary A P Padhi told media persons.
The council’s budget will be Rs 20 crore in the current fiscal. (DS)
