The scheme aims at strengthening the handloom sector. Over a lakh metres have already been woven, KT Abdul Majeed, general manager of the district industries centre (DIC), said.

About 836 looms of all the 36 societies under consideration are involved in producing the fabric, a report in a leading Indian English-language daily said quoting K.V. Santhosh Kumar, secretary of the Kannur Handloom Association. (DS)
