Mizoram govt assures support to weavers

The Mizoram government has plans to promote weavers in the State and would continue to support them. The state's Industries Minister H Rohluna made the comment at a function in Kawlkulh Handloom Cluster in Champhai district recently.

Rohluna said Kawlkulh was one of the 17 places in the state where the Cluster Development Programme has been implemented.

At the function, the Minister distributed Rs 26,000 each to the 90 successful trainees for construction of work shed and expressed his hope that the same would generate a new source of income for Kawlkulh and surrounding areas.

To facilitate easy purchase of yarn by weavers, the government has arranged Weavers' Credit Card scheme under which banks gives out loan up to Rs 3 lakh at a low rate of interest of 3 per cent only, he said.

The Centre has allocated a total assistance Rs 16.44 crore for Cluster Development Programme for Mizoram. The state government has already received a sum of Rs 9.07 crore under the scheme.

Mizoram will also receive Rs 1.12 crore under the Integrated Skill Development Scheme (ISDS). (SH)
