In order to provide better marketing facilities to weavers of Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, the district administration is planning to set up a handloom bazaar. Most of the weavers are leaving the trade, due to poor marketing of their products and declining incomes. So, by setting up the bazaar, the administration hopes to increase their income.
According a leading daily report, weavers in Srikakulam are quitting weaving activities as incomes have kept on falling with each passing year, with only the old people still involved in weaving, and the younger generation getting in to other professions.In order to provide better marketing facilities to weavers of Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, the district administration is planning to set up a handloom bazaar. The construction work of the proposed bazaar to be set up at a cost of around Rs 1 crore, is anticipated to be completed by March 2017 and will have two floors. While the ground floor will have around 20 shops, the first floor will be used for other commercial purposes. (AR)
