Amenba Yaden, parliamentary secretary of industries & commerce, NIDC, inaugurated the WSC under the auspices of development commissioner of handlooms.
While addressing the audience at the ceremony, Yaden said that unemployment is a challenge for the Naga society. He said that jobs in the government sectors have reached a saturation point and state government should provide new opportunities for self employment. The WSC is a government initiative to fulfil this demand.
The WSC will essentially impart training to artisans on designing, weaving and dyeing, said local media reports quoting K Hokishe Assumi, managing director of Nagaland Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation and additional director of industries & commerce.
He also said that the centre will also facilitate marketing of the products manufactured by the artisans trained at WSC. Tools and equipment worth Rs 27,000 will be made available to the trainees at a subsidised rate of Rs 13,000, said Assumi.
The land for the WSC has been donated by Luyong village native and former Director of NEZCC, Lipokmar Tzudir and the construction is being done with voluntary participation of the youth association of the area.
Subramaniam, deputy director WCS, distributed training kits to the trainees on the occasion. (KD)
