Hainsworth, one of the oldest woven luxury woollen cloth makers from Yorkshire, has come up with a new limited edition range of home décor fabrics titled Strata.

The clothier has teamed up with the London-based home textile specialist Patrick Thomson to launch a new line of cushions made from the former’s iconic Melton fabric.

The collection is inspired from the yesteryear’s British beachside views as seen from the north east seaside resorts like Redcar and the vivid vegetation and layered sediments of strata.

Detailed with colour-block panels of Melton cloth, the fluffy, soft, cushy pieces are based on a seaside palette of powder blue, teal, white and cavalry yellow colours.

While commenting on the collection, the designer says, “My Strata cushions are inspired by the rather kitsch and beautiful colours and imagery of 1940s and 1950s English seaside resorts.”

“As soon as I saw Hainsworth’s incredible Melton fabrics I knew the colours would be perfect for my designs. Hainsworth’s Melton cloth is a heavenly fabric to work with. As a designer it is inspiring to know where a fabric comes from, its history and how it has been made,” he adds.

Julie Greenough, the spokesperson for Hainsworth, also revealed in a statement, “We were delighted to supply Patrick with our Melton fabric. We love the way he has been inspired by British seaside resorts to create such visually striking modern cushions.”

Strata cushions are available for sale at the London Mayfair’s brick-and-mortar store and the online portal of The New Craftsmen.

Known for its supreme quality and craftsmanship, the Melton fabric is used to make the striking scarlet uniform of the Royal Guards, the ceremonial uniforms worn by the Royal Family during state occasions and was used in the military uniforms worn during the Charge of the Light Brigade.

Patrick Thomson is trained in Fashion Menswear from The Royal College of Art, London.

Established in 1783, Hainsworth owns about 192,000 square feet of manufacturing space and some 37 different roofing structures. The company has been awarded with a Royal Warrant in 2004 for its furnishing fabrics for Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace.

Founded in 2012, The New Craftsmen currently showcases and sells products from a network of over 75 makers working in textiles, silverware, furniture, ceramics, jewellery and glassware sectors.
