The planned Malawi-China Textile Company in Salima in central Malawi is likely to employ over 1,500 locals and benefit 200,000 farmers and 1.5 million households once it gets fully operational in June 2019. The $30-million project, to be realised in two phases, is a result of an initiative by the Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC).
While laying the foundation stone of the company recently, the country’s President Peter Mutharika said his government wants to modernise the lakeshore district of Salima, according to a report by a Chinese news agency. (DS)
