Having decided to establish the proposed textile park as a public-private venture, the government of Uttarakhand, a state in the northern part of India, is seeking a private sector partner to join it in the venture, Principal Secretary, Industries, Rakesh Sharma, has said.

Last year, the Centre declared a series of concessions aggregating around Rs. 2.5 billion for the state, including establishment of a 100 acre textile park in Kashipur-Jaspur area of Kumaon area.

However, state Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna recently voiced his concern over the delay in establishment of the proposed textile park in the state.

Mr. Sharma said as the country is enduring a phase of industrial slowdown, the private sector players are not very much keen on investing in the textile sector, according to a Business Standard report.

The state government had already forwarded the partnership proposal to Alps, but on receiving any favourable response from the company, the government is now planning to float an expression of interest for the project, Mr. Sharma said.

During the Eleventh Five Year Plan period (2007-12), the Central Government sanctioned establishment of 40 textile parks across the country.
