People working in the woven and crochet textile sector will receive a 10 per cent increase in their pay, effective from July 1, 2016.

The pay hike will benefit approximately 1,100 workers from 37 factories spread across South Africa, the COSATU-affiliated Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers' Union (SACTWU) said.

Wage negotiations between employers and SACTWU were carried out under the auspices of the National Textile Bargaining Council.

Wage negotiations for other sectors of the textile industry, including the garment sector, would be held separately. (RKS)
