The percentage decrease in garment exports during the year was, however, little greater than the 16.93 per cent decline in overall exports from Bangladesh during the same period.
Category-wise, knitwear exports fell 17.65 per cent to $13.908 billion in fiscal 2019-20, as against exports of $16.888 billion during the previous fiscal, as per the data.
Likewise, exports of woven apparel decreased 18.58 per cent to $14.041 billion during the period under review, compared to exports of $17.244 billion during 2018-19.
Woven and knitted apparel and clothing accessories’ exports together accounted for 82.99 per cent of $33.674 billion worth of total exports made by Bangladesh in fiscal 2019-20.
In the fiscal ending June 30, 2019, readymade garment exports from Bangladesh crossed the $34-billion mark.
Meanwhile, home textile exports (Chapter 63, excluding 630510) declined 10.90 per cent to $758.91 million during the twelve-month period under review, compared to exports of $851.72 million during the previous fiscal.
