Nike, Adidas and Uniqlo have expressed strong interest in locating their production lines to Russia, according to the country’s deputy minister of industry and trade Viktor Yevtukhov. The price-quality ratio of textile products in Russia is optimal, with its geographical position and infrastructure making it beneficial from a logistical angle, he said.

He was speaking to journalists recently on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Spanish multinational clothing company Inditex has been producing some of its textiles and clothing in Russia since 2017, A top Russian newspaper quoted the deputy minister as saying.

Manufacturing of footwear products is highly developed in Russia and that many companies running their footwear retail chains in Russia may benefit from localizing production capacities in the country, he added.

In 2016, Swedish furniture manufacturer IKEA launched its biggest Russia-based furniture factory near the north-western city of Veliky Novgorod. The factory produces goods for the domestic market and the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and also exports to Italy, Slovakia, Poland, Israel, China and Canada. (DS)
