The World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI), the world authoritative body for the sports industry, has shared the outcome of its WFSGI Covid-19 impact survey. The survey found that still 64 per cent of sporting goods industry representatives see their supply chains being disrupted with main issues for South Asia and Far East region.

“In a hopeful way we have evaluated the results that the situation around orders do not further deteriorate. It is also good to see that labour shortage is no longer causing problems for the majority of the sector. This might help to balance the concerns still prevailing when it comes to supply chain disruption and material shortage,” Robbert de Kock, The WFSGI president & CEO, said in a press release.

The survey found that less than one third of participants didn’t see orders decrease. Further, the situation remains challenging for the European and Northern American markets from where 50 per cent less orders being made. However, it seems that for most other regions the situation has not further deteriorated.

“We also have to consider carefully the fact that most players in our industry are forecasting that they need over a year for their business to recover. Over 95 per cent of companies seem to be prepared for that period as they have a plan to sustain operations, this is a promising sign to accept this challenge,” de Kock said. “Supply chains will undergo changes, this is something that the responses clearly show. With a clear support for environmentally friendly products, there seem to already be first signs in which directions the changes point.”

For labours, the survey suggested that over 60 per cent are no longer confronted with labour shortage. Also, since the summer months, it’s the first time that some respondents expect business recovery of 70 per cent and above.
