‘And the Mirror Crack’d’ to
set an upbeat vibe to the season
Trust Anand Kabra to be inspired by the unconventional and out
of the ordinary. Chaos and disintegration brought together a collection called
…”And the Mirror Crack’d” from the studios of this very talented designer for
Fall/Winter 2009 at Lakme Fashion Week.
Using his theme in the most creative manner to present an utterly feminine
elegant line, Anand made magic by blending the dark with the light hues. Using
black as the base for the garments he gave brief touches of grey, golden
yellow, teal and orange for silhouettes gracefully moulded to the body without
being too overtly figure hugging in delicate fabrics like organic silk and
stretch jersey, that were gently draped around the figure or perfectly
finished.
Mirror work was used imaginatively but Anand preferred to cut and file the
mirrors and beadwork in circular motifs to add discreet glitter to the
geometric designs on leggings, blouses, saris and dresses.
Stunners were the opening black jacket with asymmetric collar and closure, the
capped shoulder sheaths, sarong draped jodhpur pants, the grey beaded extended
shoulder collar sheath, the black all over mirror work pant and one shoulder
tunic and the saris which reflected the same theme but with more drama and
elegance.
From using fluid shapes that floated around the body in his past collections,
this time it was a starkly tailored and sharply cut ensembles with a touch of
retro. Once again it was a winning creative story from Anand Kabra which will
appeal to women in India and around the globe.
