scorch LFW ramp for Manish Malhotra
When the inspiration is one of the best cars in the world then the collection
has to be extraordinary. Skoda Auto’s Superb was the theme around which ace
Bollywood designer Manish Malhotra created his “7 Star Superb” collection which
was a veritable feast for the eyes in fabrics, colours, form and the exquisite
embroidery that was lavished on the garments.
Tulle, chiffon, tissue, georgette, brocade, satin, lace in shades of rich
bronze, red, beige, pink, brown, peach, and delicate ivory and white gave the
saris, sherwanis, lehengas and floor length kurtas an almost ethereal touch.
The embellishments were so dazzling and opulent that they left the audience
breathless with their intricate workmanship. 3D motifs, gotta borders, velvet
appliqués, silver and gold sequins and beadwork and shimmering crystals were
used in the most amazing manner by Manish to turn each and every garment of his
into a show stopper.
Where Manish scored was with the many versions of the choli which he designed –
some with three-quarter puff sleeves, others were halter while still some were
sexily brief. The floor length kurtas in sheer and matte flared panels in
pastel hues and multiple fabrics and patterns swirled around the models. Some
were daringly sheer with glittering bustiers under them.
Men’s sherwanis and kurtas were either teamed with Patiala salwars, churidars or
lungis. The former were in rich brocades while the later remained subtle in
ivory or pastel hues.
Ending the show were Genilia D’souza the bright star in Bollywood in a luxurious
jade green velvet lehenga resplendent with shimmer teamed with a bronze corset
and the debonair Tushar Kapoor in a stylish chocolate brocade sherwani.
When it comes to creating dramatic ensembles that make a woman want to own them
and a man to wear them; then Manish Malhotra is the master who can dream up a
collection with glitz, glamour and style.
