Woman feels like queen in Vikram Phadnis collection

Bollywood’s favourite designer recreated the grandeur of the past on to the ramp at Lakme Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 2009. From the start of the show there was nothing but opulence on the stage in every garment that Vikram Phadnis designed and gracefully floated down the catwalk.

The story was completely Indian and traditional in nature with rich fabrics like velvet, tissue, brocade, chiffon, georgette and Lurex all forming part of a single garment or as separate entries.

The opening of the show was an impressive black ruffled long skirt and brocade jacket with a swirling peplum. Colours of the rainbow were splashed on the collection but in deep muted tones of brown, black, maroon, wine, rust, and lashes of turquoise.

The hipster lehenga with churidars and turquoise velvet draped choli, the swaying paneled angarkha kurtas, the flared kalidar frocks, double layered kurtas, floor length angarkha, and smocked black lehenga with embroidered choli and dupatta were part of the luxurious collection.

The finale collection displayed on the Miss India 2009 contestants were the crème de la crème of the evening as embroidered jackets and churidars, rust bundi with black paneled skirt, maroon paneled mini kurti with appliqué and velvet long sleeved maroon blouse and sari added grace to the beauty pageant contestants.

Gold, sequins, crystals and resham embroidery of a very high standard was used on every garment to give it that regal touch. It was a collection that Vikram Phadnis obviously created for women who want to feel like queens no matter what the season.
