Fashion and the freedom movement have inspired designers for decades and so the Indian struggle for independence was the theme for Sanjay Hingu’s look for men’s wear at Lakme Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010.
For Sanjay it was the karma of the freedom fighters that gave rise to this collection on a colour palette which was sombre in shades of grey, for cotton and linen.
From Gandhi and Nehru prints on jackets and Tees there were Subhash Chandra Bose and Sarojini Naidu who also embellished the garments and were the new fashion icon motifs for the coming season.
Opening the show with Jawaharlal Nehru’s Independence Day speech at midnight, Sanjay sent a stylish grey jacket with zipper detailing on back, sides and sleeves to set the mood of the look. The western silhouettes started with a bomber jacket, shirts, pants, and Tees which were given touches of the theme in print while the trimming, piping and other unconventional effects like a one lapel for a jacket, the combo of jacket kurti and trouser and knits with multiple pocket flaps gave a new style dimension to men’s wear.
Sanjay Hingu’s men’s wear for the coming season has that nostalgic retro influence which will surely make it timeless apparel with ethnic international touches for the male buyer.
