Malls offer freebies to shoppers ahead of festive season

In order to meet head on the heavy discounting offered by online retail and attract shoppers in the festive season, shopping malls in major cities are going aggressive and offering freebies and easy finance options. This is being done with the hope to get back the footfalls and increase turnover by 45-50 per cent as against in the same period last year.
Following feedback from retailers, a newly released ASSOCHAM paper reveals that after unveiling new sales strategies, various malls in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Chennai are already witnessing increased activity, although Diwali is more than 10 days away.
Most of the stores in the malls have tied up with companies producing consumer durables and apparels to offer tempting schemes with easy finance options to shoppers. (AR)
