PRSM comes up with new trends for retail industry

The Professional Retail Store Maintenance Association (PRSM), the main authority on retail and multi-site facilities management, has come up with the annual review of the state of retail facilities management and key trends by some of the leading retailers.

The PRSM 2015 report provides information about the latest technologies used by the retail industries in the market. According to the report, the retail industries have adopted innovative technologies for efficient data management and store operations. The newly recruited employees are trained in this new business techniques used in the retail market, the report says.

The president of PRSM association of board of directors and facilities manager Kirk Beaudoin, said, “The retail industry has undergone a tremendous amount of change, and if predictions are accurate, there’s much more in store in the coming five years. However, even if some experts are correct and stores continue to morph into experiential destinations, our goals will remain the same – to enhance the customer experience with every tool and technology at our disposal.”

According to Kirk, retail facilities managers are coming up with new trends for the bright future of the retail industry.

The first trend is making retail sustainable, which shows how one brand operates stores with highly efficient recycling methods, by reusing the waste materials.

The second one is the concept of Net Zero retail store is where a store generates more energy than it consumes using solar panels and geothermal.

The third trend is technology and efficient asset management, where retail store use mobile devices for better understanding of latest trends in the market, which help in making good future planning for asset management in the following years.

The fourth trend is training people with latest processes and technology in response to today’s challenges, while building the team of tomorrow.

The fifth trend is data mining and analytics that help proper storage of important data, and make smarter decision and strategic planning.

This year’s report includes brands like are Gap and Nike, with support from Divisions Maintenance Group and ServiceChannel. (GK)
