Krishnamurthy joins as COO of Flipkart commerce division

Leading strategy expert and McKinsey director, Saikiran Krishnamurthy has joined ecommerce giant Flipkart as chief operating officer (COO) of its commerce division.

Flipkart had last month, reshuffled its top management and Mukesh Bansal who managed Myntra had been named CEO of the commerce division, according to media reports.

Mukesh Bansal joined Flipkart when it bought his online fashion store, Myntra for about Rs 2,000 crore in May last year.

As part of the rejig, Flipkart CEO Sachin Bansal will now lead new initiatives, and another co-founder Binny Bansal will overlook supply chain and logistics.

Mukesh Bansal was made CEO of commerce, which for all practical purposes means he is responsible for Flipkart's operations including revenues.

Krishnamurthy is an IIM-Ahmedabad graduate and has been with McKinsey for more than 15 years, leading its Chemicals and Agriculture practice in India.

In three rounds of funding, from both new and existing investors, last year Flipkart raised $1.9 billion to compete with other online retailers like Amazon and Snapdeal. (AR)
