The ministry of tribal affairs in India plans to tie up with various organisations to sell its 'Tribes India' brand products from their retail counters. The franchises will sell the products at prices fixed by the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED), which will bear the transportation costs and taxes on the stock.

The franchisee will receive a commission ranging from 10-25 per cent on net sales, tribal affairs minister Jual Oram said recently while inaugurating a festival of tribal products. All such products will carry 'Tribal Craft Mark' in the form of a hologram, label or tag for its authenticity.

TRIFED promotes the ‘Tribes India’ brand and its showrooms in different parts of the country offer a range of tribal products.

The ministry also recently launched a special 'Friend of Tribes' scheme under which loyalty cards will be issued, offering 20 per cent discount on most of the products being sold through Tribes India outlets located across the country, according to a press release from the ministry.

TRIFED also plans to expand sales by empanelling salespersons, to be called 'Young Entrepreneurs of TRIFED’ or YET, for undertaking door-to-door campaign for sale of tribal products. (DS)
