Workers in the age group of 18 to 20 years will get £5.60, those under 18 will get £4.05 and apprentices will get £3.50 for every hour from April, according to the government of the UK.
Retailers in the country are expected to suffer from the increase in the National Living Wage and close to 3,700 shop workers are already redundant as leading chain retail stores in UK have cut low-skilled jobs. New technological advancements in the field have been cited as the reason for rendering these jobs obsolete.
Retail stores are insisting that job cuttings are being done to increase store efficiency, however, UK media reports say that the changes are being made to counterbalance rising labour costs. (KD)
