Germany’s Aldi, UK’s John Lewis, Sweden’s Ikea and Ireland’s Primark have topped YouGov’s 2019 BrandIndex Buzz Rankings for retail, although Netflix knocked discount supermarket Aldi off the top spot on the overall list. For the first time since 2014 Aldi did not top the annual rankings. Lidl moved back into the top three with 15.1 while Ikea ranked fifth at 13.2.

The top five brands for high street fashion in descending order of rank are Primark, Marks & Spencer, Next, Tu Clothing and TK Maxx.
The top five brands for high street retail in descending order of rank are John Lewis, B&M, Marks & Spencer, Home Bargains and Primark. The top five brands for general retail in descending order of rank are Ikea, Wilko, Argos, Dunelm and The Range. The last four are all based in the United Kingdom.
The top five brands for supermarkets in the same order are Aldi, Lidl, Marks & Spencer, Morrisons and Waitrose.
YouGov said buzz scores are calculated by asking members of the public if they have heard anything positive or negative about a brand in the past fortnight. The rankings are the average of these scores taken throughout 2019.
