British sports fashion retail company JD Sports has acquired the independent menswear retailer Oi Polloi based in Manchester, England. The deal includes the acquisition of the Northern Quarter shop and online assets of the brand. Nigel Lawson and Steve Sanderson who founded Oi Polloi in 2002, will be stepping away from the business after the merger.

Oi Polloi sells classic and contemporary menswear from brands like Polo Ralph Lauren, C P Company, Stone Island, Patagonia, Engineered Garments, Battenwear, Beams Plus, Berghaus and Gramicci to name a few.

The executive chairman of JD Sports, Peter Cowgill, will serve as the company director of Oi Polloi, according to British media reports.

JD Sports had recently acquired US-based businesses Shoe Palace and DTLR along with Leicester-based independent retailer Wellgosh. It also acquired a 60 per cent majority stake in Poland-based Marketing Investment Group (MIG) recently.
