Unifi, Inc. is committed to continuous improvement in sustainability in all its operations. Their goal is to provide sustainable textile solutions to its customers at every level of the supply chain while operating in an environmentally responsible manner.
Unifi adopts various methods to reduce solid waste generation and energy. Speaking about making efforts to reduce reliance on oil-based raw materials, Caudle told Fibre2Fashion about their flagship recycled product line, Repreve, which is produced from recycled materials. "To date, we have recycled more than 5 billion plastic bottles into Repreve fibre. Repreve not only alleviates the use of crude oil products, it also requires less energy and water for production and results in lower greenhouse gas emissions. At our bottle processing facility, we have a water treatment plant that recycles water from the fibre dyeing process to be used for bottle washing. We also have a solar farm that supports energy usage at our domestic plant," said Caudle, adding that these efforts allowed operations to become landfill free.
Unifi works towards making its operations in the entire supply chain eco-friendly. It uses only essential packaging materials and also seeks only those suppliers who work to improve the environmental impact of the supply chain. Further, it also examines all its operations to see how it can be reduced, reused and recycled. (RR)
