Klopman International uses Fairtrade cotton, organic cotton and also recycled polyester yarn, thereby targeting garment manufacturers to encourage them towards a sustainable business model.

The vision of Klopman was to develop a sustainable product capable to maintain the features and the fabric standards in terms of comfort and durability.

“Today, the basic yarn utilised for workwear garments can be replaced by similar materials aimed to reduce the environmental footprint and conservation of resources,” a Klopman press release revealed.

“Recycled polyester is made from PET plastic bottles, a resource that would otherwise end up in the waste landfills,” it added.

“A conscious choice can also be done in the selection of the type of cotton to use for the fabric with two options to be taken individually or combined with each other,” the company.

One is organic cotton, grown by using methods and products that have a low impact on the environment by using organic fertilisers instead of chemical ones and elimination of pesticides, etc.

The other is Fairtrade cotton, an international organisation based on fair trading relationships, committed to a sustainable livelihood for cotton producers and giving support to the local communities.

According to Klopman, it has always applied a constant and passionate commitment to innovation according to ethical and environmental issues as well as recognition to its people.

From the selection of raw materials through weaving, dyeing and finishing, the company tries to minimise use of toxic substances, reduce waste and energy consumption and sustain development of renewable energies.

Klopman produces 70 per cent of its total electricity needs or 4 MW through cogeneration, using steam in the production process that would otherwise be wasted.

The liquid products used in the manufacturing process are neutralised through a double step purification process before discharge and the water, where possible, is recycled to reduce wastage.

Klopman is equipped with advanced air extraction systems, which installed throughout the factory, filter and purify the air by minimising the impact of harmful substances into the outside environment.

As per the Italian company, reducing 'Greenhouse Emissions Directive 2003/87/EC' sets limits for gas emissions to reduce greenhouse effect for EU companies.

Klopman said it is not only compatible with this Directive, but has exceeded expectations as CO2 emission limit set for Klopman is about 43,833 tons per year, while actual emissions during 2015 were 32,780 tons per year. (AR)

Klopman International operates in accordance with European standards for quality management ISO 9001:2008 and is certified BS EN ISO 14001: 2004 for environment and BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 for security. (AR)
