Repreve, Unifi's recycled fibre brand and Detroit Lions Quarterback Matthew Stafford raised more than $10,500 to benefit the Sports, Academics, Youth (S.A.Y.) Detroit Play Center.

“The weeklong auction featured five original works of art created by Stafford, as well as seven of the footballs Stafford used to create the paintings,” a Unifi press release informed.

Opting out of using a paintbrush, Stafford dipped footballs in paint and threw them at the four-feet wide by six-feet tall Repreve-based canvases, each made from 35 recycled plastic bottles, to create five original paintings.

“The competitive auction amassed more than 720 bids with 100 per cent of the proceeds going towards helping transform the lives of kids at the Detroit Play Center,” Unifi added in the press release.

According to Unifi, Repreve is a fibre made from recycled materials, such as plastic bottles, and is used in some of the world's favorite brands.

Repreve is also the official recycling and sustainability partner of the Detroit Lions, and has worked to educate fans about the importance of recycling and showcasing consumer products created from plastic bottles.

“During the past two seasons, Lions fans have recycled nearly 100,000 plastic bottles in-stadium,” the press release informed.
