Eleksen Group plc, the world's leading provider of touch-sensitive smart fabrics for consumer electronics in apparel and accessories, announces that it has been chosen by Ermenegildo Zegna to supply ElekTex iPod controls for its Zegna Sport iJACKET.
The iJACKET is aimed at the luxury market and will be sold through Zegna's own retail stores as well as other luxury retailers in the USA, Europe and Asia including Harrods, SAKS Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdales.
Zegna selected Eleksen for their ability to fulfil the role of a strategic partner, helping the designer to develop products for the future as the wearable technologies market progresses.
Robin Shephard, CEO of Eleksen comments: “With Zegna's iJACKET we're entering the luxury goods market for the first time and the global power of Zegna's brand and distribution network will ensure that this product is available worldwide. Our partnership is testimony to the growing opportunities that wearable technologies present."
"This is still a nascent market and the opportunity remains for retailers and apparel manufacturers to take a leading position through the creation of innovative and stylish new interactive apparel products.”
“There is clearly a growing market for clothing that enables consumers to interact more conveniently with the ever-increasing number of mobile entertainment devices available to them. I would not be surprised if in ten years' time we will be referring to clothingthat is not tech-enabled as 'dumb' clothing,””he concludes.
Anna Zegna, creative director at Zegna, adds: “The “Zegna iJACKET's” technology is superior, providing iPod users with excellent sound performance and function. We have created a luxury sport jacket that integrates a seamless function of wearing outwear and enjoying the highest technical abilities of music and innovation”.
