Quebec's textile industry invests nearly $400,000 for R&D

Québec's textile industry, which faces major challenges given market globalization, now has extra investments of some $400,000 over five years for partnership research in the area of textiles, geosynthetics and polymeric materials.

CTT Group has signed an agreement with the Fonds québécois de la recherche sur la nature et les technologies (FQRNT) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada (NSERC) to award Industrial Innovations Scholarships. The agreement will provide support for creating and strengthening collaboration, skills transfer mechanisms, and knowledge sharing between the university community and businesses.

Master's and doctoral level students in agri-food research who want to acquire practical workplace experience and skills could stand to benefit from this agreement and BMP Innovation, a new research scholarship program. "We want to foster growth of the innovative capability of Québec's regions and businesses and help young Master's and doctoral graduates to gain access to careers in the industry," said FQRNT CEO Sylvie Dillard.

"Québec's textile industry is changing. To be able to prosper in the world's new textile economy, it has to offer new, attractive and competitive products that take advantage of the latest technological discoveries," said CTT Group CEO Jacek Mlynarek. "What could be better for a business than to have low-cost access to motivated students who'll enable it to tap into emerging technology. We're very happy to have signed this agreement with FQRNT and NSERC that will benefit the industry and is a first step in our bid to increase investments aimed at innovation in Québec's textile industry," he added.
