Leading global apparel and textile industry majors on first day of the Fourth Technopak International Textile & Apparel Congress 2006 (ITAC 2006) with over 200 leading global majors from the textile and apparel sector gathered at the 4th International Textile and Apparel Congress organized by Technopak Advisors Pvt Ltd.
In keeping with the new post-quota global order, the focus was on changing market dynamics. The Congress, which saw representation from 14 countries, zeroed in on what is characteristic of industry one fourth of the global supply and retail chain, where outsourcing is the byword.
In order to gain a larger piece of the apparel and textile pie in a continuously competitive arena, the congress highlighted the opportunities for textile and apparel in the areas of design innovation and supply chain logistics.
With design costs at one tenth as compared to the US, and there being a change in sourcing patterns of buyers – with them now looking to source fashion sensitive products from centres close to point of sale and products from low cost far off locations, the concept of design and supply chain efficiency is a key opportunity for India.
Inaugurating the Congress, Hon'ble Union Minister of Textiles, Govt. of India, Mr. Shankersinh Vaghela said: “India is providing a great opportunity for employment especially in the textile and apparel sector. With good infrastructure, skilled labour and the best raw materials we can fulfil the textile requirements of the entire world. The time to invest in India is now! ”
