Conference on 'Strategies for doing business in China'

Strategies for doing business in the new China will be the focus of the 21st Annual Conference of the Association for Chinese Economic Studies Australia (ACESA), which begins at RMIT University.

The two-day conference, China in the post WTO environment: bilateral financial flows and investment strategies will include presentations from high-profile Chinese and Australian academics.

Speakers include Professor Zhang Youwen, Director of the Institute of World Economy, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and Professor Wing Thye Woo, from the Brookings Institution and University of California.

Presented by ACESA in conjunction with the School of Economics, Finance and Marketing at RMIT, the conference will cover a broad range of issues such as economic growth and the global economic crisis, agricultural and rural development, public sector reform and corporate governance, integration of China in the world economy, as well as economic growth and social harmony.

• Rethinking Innovation – Learning and Doing, Peter Sheldrake, RMIT University
• How does China Sustain its Labour Intensive Industries, Qu Yue, China Academy of Social Sciences

• Have You Eaten Yet? China’s Changing Household Income and Savings Profile: Implications for the Marketing of Financial Services, Xuebin Chen, Fudan University, KB Oh and Geoffrey R Durden, La Trobe University
• Ownership and Ownership Concentration? The Impact on the Performance of China’s Listed Firms, Tony Naughton, RMIT University, Shiguang Ma and Gary Tian, University of Wollongong
