If Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen is to be believed, Turkey seems itching to dress the world in jeans manufactured from that country. During the first quarter this year Turkish exports of jeans registered 21 growth, informs Tuzmen.

Speaking ahead of denim fair being organized in Russia, Tuzmen said 200 million people throughout the world wear Turkish jeans, while its manufacturing market share in percentile terms stands at 6.5.

He confirmed that in the world jeans market, Turkey's share has risen and jeans export touched $2.2 billion mark in 2004. Notably, the figure merely stood at $984 million in 2000.

Current year target for jeans manufacturing stands at $2.8 billion, Tuzmen announced, and added subject to US imposing quota on Chinese textiles, Turkey could have achieved $3 million figure.

He also conveyed that exports in the sector rose by 20 percent.

Tuzmen opined Turkey's market share could go up 10 percent in a few years, as the jeans sector did not face any quality issues.

"We can sell two pairs instead of one if we chose to adopt a brand name. The jeans sector gives successful examples on this subject," he proudly added.
