Printing United to present Color Ready! virtual conference

Registration is open for next installment of Printing United Alliance’s Color Ready! virtual conference series to be held from September 21-25. The sessions will be presented by foremost names in space and geared towards anyone involved in colour throughout the lifecycle of a printed job including designers, prepress professionals, salespeople, and CSR.

“Colour is a hot topic. In an ideal world, printed colour would appear exactly as customers envision regardless of the process, though anyone who works frequently with colour knows that is not always the case,” said Joe Marin, senior vice president, education and training, Printing United Alliance. “The presenters for this virtual series were hand-selected to best equip attendees with the latest tools and techniques to produce the intended colour. The live, interactive conference format allows attendees to ask the necessary questions to implement specific processes into their own unique operation.”

On Monday, September 21, 2 PM ET, lecture on “Color Foundations” will be presented by Don Hutcheson, president, HutchColor, LLC. Topics will include: The theory and psychology of colour, Colour spaces and gamut considerations, Colour deficiency and viewing, Colour reproduction — what's possible and what's not.

On Tuesday, September 22, 2 PM ET, a session on “Assessing and Communicating Colour” will be presented by Joe Marin, senior vice president, education and training; and Ray Weiss, director of digital print programmes, Printing United Alliance. Topics will include: The three ways colour goes wrong and how to identify them, Proper terminology and how to communicate color effectively, How to evaluate color visually through examples, How to evaluate colour scientifically with measurement devices.

On Wednesday, September 23, 2PM ET, a session on “Color Correction Made Easy” will be presented by Ben Starr, colour technology and workflow expert, Colormanagement. Topics will include: Tips and tools to get the best images in Photoshop, Why and how to colour correct in the RGB colour space, How to get the very best, most natural flesh tones.

On Thursday, September 24, 2PM ET, lecture on “Getting the Right Colour in PDFs” will be presented by Birgit Plautz, manager of technical services, GMG Americas. Topics will include: Why outstanding colour begins with native files, Adobe CC "canned" PDF presets and how they impact colour, PDF standards, colour settings, what each setting is, and what it does, Solid starting points for PDF settings for digital and offset printing.

On Friday, September 25, 2PM ET, lecture on topic “Managing Spot Colors in a Digital World” will be presented by Dan Gillespie, director of technical services, Alder Color Solutions. Topics will include: Understanding Pantone spot colours and limitations with digital printing, Defining spot colours to match your design files with your RIP, Getting the best match using your printer's full gamut, How to match custom colors using spot colours.

Printing United Alliance is the new entity borne of the merger between Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) and Printing Industries of America (PIA). In a milestone in the printing industry, SGIA and PIA officially combined in 2020 to create the largest, most comprehensive member-based printing and graphic arts association in the United States.
