Under the Concessional Credit/Weaver MUDRA Scheme, the Indian government has sanctioned 44,037 loans with a cumulative amount of ₹246.24 crore to the handloom sector during the last three years till October 31 this year, minister of state for textiles Darshana Jardosh told the lower house of parliament (Lok Sabha) recently in a written reply.

The Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) is a scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 8, 2015, for providing loans up to ₹10 lakh to non-corporate, non-farm small and micro enterprises. These loans are classified as MUDRA loans.

The textiles ministry has written to all banks and state governments to sensitise bank branches about the scheme, registration on portal, expeditious sanction and disbursement of loans and organise regular meetings to monitor the progress for increasing the number and amount of such loans to weavers, an official release cited the minister as saying.

Jardosh also holds the portfolios of consumer affairs and food and public distribution as minister of state.
