Arvind Limited one of India's largest integrated textile and an apparel major, has again bagged first prize in the National Energy Conservation Award 2015 in the textile sector, given by the Union Power Ministry.

Arvind has bagged this award consecutively for the second year in a row, on account of its energy savings achieved through various initiatives by its unit situated at Santej in Gujarat, the company said in a press release. Thirty two other contestants were in the fray for the award.

National Energy Conservation Day, which is celebrated every year on December 14, witnesses giving out of 'National Energy Conservation Award' by the Power Ministry. Power Minister Piyush Goyal presented the awards at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi this time.

Since Arvind received first position consecutively for the second year it has been specially recognized by Award for Excellence. The award was received by Susheel Kaul, CEO - Lifestyle Fabrics (Shirting, Khaki & Knitwear) Arvind Limited and Harvinder Rathee - Head Engineering, Santej Plant, Arvind Limited.

On receiving the award, Kaul said, “Improvement in energy efficiency in our plant is a sustained activity, we appreciate Government of India's recognition of our plant as the most energy efficient textile unit in India for the second year in a row”. The 'Award of Excellence' given to Arvind is on the back of nearly 13 per cent reduction in specific consumption in thermal energy and 10 per cent reduction in specific consumption in electrical energy compared to the last financial year.

Arvind introduced various initiatives in its plant to conserve energy like replacement of TFL with energy efficient LED lighting, installation of energy efficient compressors, VFDs in various machines, using day lights in production halls, replacement of existing pumps with energy efficient pumps. The thermal energy savings where achieved by Economizers in boilers, trap replacement, thermal insulations, heat recovery from hot effluent etc.

“We were able to achieve power savings through various innovations and all our efforts have paid off. The year on year improvement in energy efficiency is testimony to the dedication we have towards energy conservation”, said Rathee.

The National Energy Conservation Awards instituted by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency under the Power Ministry, recognizes innovation and achievements in energy conservation by the industry, buildings, zonal railways, state designated agencies, manufacturers of BEE star-labelled appliances and municipalities, and raise awareness that energy conservation plays a big part in India's effort to reduce global warming through energy savings.
