Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) and one of China's leading textile enterprises, The Nanshan Group have joined forces to launch Neulana, a new range of 100 per cent Merino wool and wool blend fabrics.

“Neulana comprises of four different fabrics designed for producing a wide range of apparel and accessories,” a press release from AWI informed.

These include Neulana Elite for elegant and luxury suits, Neulana Protect for machine washable and weather resistant coats and jackets, Neulana Air for smart casual wear and Neulana Accessori for scarves and shawls.

Made from Australian Merino wool, Neulana Elite has been made from fibres on which the latest stretch technology has been applied, resulting in a lightweight woven fabric with a cashmere-like feel and a subtle silk-like sheen.

Made from 100 per cent Australian wool, wool fibres destined for Neulana Protect fabrics are pre-stretched and then temporally set.

Following the spinning and weaving process, the fabrics super contract during the finishing process, resulting in fabrics having a significantly higher weave density.

“This makes Neulana Protect fabrics naturally both windproof and water resistant, providing protection against the elements of nature,” AWI explained.

While, Neulana Air is a premium woven 100 per cent wool fabric offering warmth without being heavy and is a resilient fabric with a loft, bounce and touch suitable for outerwear such as men's casual jackets.

Finally, Neulana Accessori's soft, smooth handle and silky lustre allows for an elegant and luxurious end product made from 100 per cent Australian Merino wool.

“Maximising the natural properties of wool such as the ability to hold dynamic colours and suitability for all seasons, premium accessories can be produced,” the Aussie wool organisation stated.

The Woolmark Company will exhibit these innovations at its latest edition of The Wool Lab, dedicated to the upcoming Autumn/Winter 2016/17 season.

“Our close cooperation with AWI has resulted in establishing the Wool Development Centre (WDC) and the International Wool Education Centre (IWEC),” Shandong Nanshan Fabric general manager, Song Riyou said.

“The Neulana new fabric collection, made from Australian Merino wool, highlights the industry's constant innovation and development,” Riyou added. (AR)
