With British Prime Minister Boris Johnson winning the election on December 13, Brexit seems imminent. As the Conservative Party crossed the 326-mark needed for a majority, Johnson set his country on course to leave the European Union (EU) next year. Expected to unveil a new government today, he will soon seek to speed up approval of his withdrawal agreement.

Johnson hailed the win for his party as a ‘powerful new mandate’ to move forward with his Brexit deal, according to British media reports.

He is now in a position to end three years of political stalemate. "We will get Brexit done on time by the 31st of January, no ifs, no buts, no maybes," Johnson told a London rally.

"Leaving the European Union as one United Kingdom, taking back control of our laws, borders, money, our trade, immigration system, delivering on the democratic mandate of the people," he said.

"Britain and the United States will now be free to strike a massive new Trade Deal after BREXIT. This deal has the potential to be far bigger and more lucrative than any deal that could be made with the E.U.," US President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter.
