China's textile & apparel exports down 9% in Jan-Feb '17

In February 2017, China's textile and garment exports fetched $10.977 billion, down 54.08 per cent month-on-month and down 29.90 per cent year-on-year. Among them, textile exports amounted to $4.587 billion, down 24.60 per cent, whereas clothing exports earned $6.39 billion, down 33.26 per cent.

China's cotton yarn imports stood at 173,000 tons in February 2017, showing an increase of 49.61 per cent month-on-month. In the first six months of China's ongoing cotton season beginning September 1, cotton yarn imports have registered an increase of 0.76 per cent year-on-year to 1.023 million tons. In the first two months of 2017, China's cotton yarn imports totalled 347,800 tons, an increase of 25.34 per cent year-on-year.

In February 2017, China's cotton imports amounted to 138,800 tons, an increase of 20.2 per cent month-on-month and up 145.7 per cent year-on-year. The average import price of $1840/ton was 2.3 per cent or $41 higher than January average price. Year-on-year, the average cotton import price was up 4.2 per cent.

Of the top five supplier countries, China's cotton imports increased from the US, Uzbekistan and Australia. The share of US cotton in China's imports was highest, accounting for 47 per cent of all cotton imports.

In the first two months of 2017, China's total cotton imports have increased by 66.7 per cent year-on-year to 253,500 tons. During the first six months of the ongoing Chinese cotton season, total imports have risen 7 per cent to 553,200 tons. (RKS)
