The second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would focus on industrial cooperation to explore business opportunities in textile, industry, agriculture, science and technology, tourism and other areas, it was decided at a recent meeting between Pakistan’s Board of Investment (BOI) chairman Atif R Bokhari and ambassador of China to Pakistan Yao Jing.

During the meeting, it was also discussed that government-to-government cooperation would now extend to business-to-business cooperation.

The BOI chairman underscored that the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic have provided Pakistan and China an opportunity to delve deeper into strategising for better implementation and cooperation, according to Pakistani media reports.

The focus in the second phase would be to finish all projects under construction by their deadlines and continue to realise the full potential of both sides for socio-economic development, job creation, improvement of people’s livelihood, accelerated industrial development, industrial parks and agricultural cooperation.

The Joint Working Group meeting on industrial cooperation will be held in the second week of June.
